Why did the surfer cross the road?
Because he was bored. (That only took a few seconds to think up. Does it show?) 'Across the road' is a popular expression for the Cycling Plus forum... or this one, depending on your perspective. The acf house style abbreviation is C+F. It launched around the turn of the millennium. I think.

Cycling Plus is a magazine aimed at the general - which is to say, not exclusively racing, mountainbiking, or 'bent/folded/etc. - cyclist. At 20,000+ it's the largest circulation periodical of its type in Britain. The overwhelming majority of acfers are former or current C+Fers. Therefore you will see it referenced now and then.

C+F chat isn't banned,* despite what you may have read on other channels. I am less than fond of it, for two main reasons: This forum is not an extension of that one (the C+F part II syndrome); and I don't care to have squabbles imported across state lines.

There's an odd antagonism to acf across the road. My forum is frequently belittled (well, it is smaller), misunderstood, and libelled, but not in a nice way.

Not drowning but surfing
Some of the
disinformation is spread by disgruntled users who have either been unhappy with a room assignment or felt they received a cold shoulder from yours truly. There's the How dare I start another cycling forum? effect to be taken into account, which is slight, but noticeable. Related to this is the interesting complaint that "I'm not good enough," often uttered by someone who has managed to register but is completely unaware of the fact. More of the antipathy or just plain lack of pathy altogether seems to be a product of simple ignorance: those nattering nabobs of negativism - never thought I'd be quoting Spiro Agnew - who Don't Get It because they never gave It a chance. And of course, acf isn't for everyone. There's no accounting for taste. See how I'm getting into the spirit of this?

The surfer had all kinds of reasons for making the journey. Perhaps he was on the road to Damascus, tripped over a can of Soylent Green, and realised his true place in the scheme of things; or wanted to escape the ads, or the snipers; or got tired of the jostling of the madd[en]ing crowd.

Or really did just get bored.

Addendum
"acf is just like C+F used to be in the old days."
No. It isn't.
