The Clubhouse
was a short-lived DIY board built for the pleasure of members of The League of Gentlemen Cyclists. It was constructed by Ravenbait & friends; she was the chief architect. It warrants mention as you will see references in the archives. For the record, I thought it was a good idea, else I wouldn't have given it planning permission in the first place.

That corner of the forum was staffed and frequented by talented contributors. The only possible negative was that it perpetuated a clique grown in the culture of the Cycling Plus forum, which I would dearly like to break away from. A little like Al Pacino in Godfather III.

This is a very touchy subject. League members are highly valued citizens of acf. As admin of a 'cliqueless' forum (at least that's the theory - please see the FAQ), I perform a balancing act of treading very carefully whilst taking a larger view of such matters.

I was willing to give the Clubhouse a free plot because one of the purposes of DIY is to allow for just such custom builds. And it offered continuity and cushioning for some people feeling jarred from bumps across the road at the time. (acf itself provided a comfort station in Office Reception. The Clubhouse was an unofficial but approved extension of that, allowing a more detailed airing of gripes far from the executive wing.)

Things started going sour when I barred one of the League officers from the forum. RB was incensed that I included her HQ in my edict. While I could see her point - I had advertised DIY as giving moderators an independent fiefdom - I felt that my goodwill was being abused. In any event, the die was cast, and later the League moved house.

Afterburn
The Clubhouse threads still online are locked, to underscore the
message that League chat is better conducted elsewhere. 'bait herself has left the building of her own volition, and can now be found in both old haunts (occasionally rattling chains of discontent at her former landlord) and new [gentlemencyclists.org].

acf rolls on.
